About Us

“STONY THE ROAD WE TROD, BITTER THE CHASTENING ROD. FELT IN THE DAYS WHEN HOPE UNBORN HAD DIED. YET WITH A STEADY BEAT, HAVE NOT OUR WEARY FEET, COME TO THE PLACE FOR WHICH OUR FATHERS SIGHED?”

Twenty-five years of experience conducting domestic and international educational programs. Educational programs range from 1 to 7 days. We will design a program to fit your specific needs.

Out of the Box Tour and Travel Services conducts workshops and field studies for educators, students, church groups, government officials, businesses, and others desiring to learn more about our nations’ history. Our premier program is “Stony the Road We Trod . . .” Alabama’s Role in the Modern Civil Rights Movement. The “Stony . . .” field study experience using placed-based learning examines how the United States finally came face-to-face with racism and made the promises of our founding documents true for all citizens.

The “Stony . . .” field study starts and ends in Birmingham, “Ground Zero” of the Modern Civil Rights Movement. With support from scholars, jurists, “Foot Soldiers,” experienced guides, and travel to landmark locations, participants undertake an epic journey across Alabama designed to reconcile memory and the truth with facts.
